I am a freelance science writer and editor based in West Virginia. I cover all things nature and am particularly passionate about ecology, adventure, and the culture of scientific research. My work appears in Nature, Science, the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, and other outlets. I also co-publish and design Highland Outdoors, West Virginia’s outdoor magazine.
I earned a BA in Cultural Anthropology from the College of William and Mary and a PhD in Biology from the University of Pittsburgh. In 2019, I was a AAAS Mass Media Science & Engineering Fellow.
Along with writing, I’m a big fan of playing outside. Most recently, I’ve picked up mountain biking and cross-country skiing. You can also find me climbing, snowboarding, and botanizing on long hikes.
