I am an independent science writer and editor based in West Virginia. I am endlessly inspired by the beauty and biodiversity of the Appalachian Mountains. My stories highlight the often overlooked creatures with whom we share a home as well as the scientists working to protect them. You can find my work in NatureScience, the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, and other outlets.

Since 2018, I’ve been a proud publisher of Highland Outdoors, an independent magazine that covers nature and adventure in West Virginia. I wear many hats, including writer, editor, designer, subscription manager, and distributor. This work ignited my passion for local journalism and print media.

Before moving to West Virginia, I spent 10 years working in academic research. In 2019, I earned a PhD in Biology from the University of Pittsburgh. A few months later, I launched my career as a science journalist through the AAAS Mass Media Science & Engineering Fellowship.

Along with writing, I’m a big fan of playing outside. Most recently, I’ve picked up mountain biking and cross-country skiing. You can also find me gardening, snowboarding, and botanizing on long hikes.
